It was a usual Wednesday morning, and my husband had left for work. I dropped off the kids at school and was meeting up with a friend for lunch later that day. At around 11 in the morning, I got a call from my husband’s mobile, and on the other end, it was someone else. The person told me that my husband had met with an accident and that he died on the way to the hospital.
Devastated and heartbroken I stood, not knowing what to do. I called my mom to tell her what had just happened and then rushed to the school to pick up my kids. I didn’t know how to tell them, so I just told them that we had to go somewhere. We reached the spot, and I broke down the moment I saw my husband lay there lifeless. My kids couldn’t understand what was going on. They were staring at me with a puzzled look on their faces. I asked my mom to take care of them, so I could go settle the hospital bills and complete the formalities.
Once that was done, came in the claims from my husband’s business partners. After paying them off, all we had to ourselves was nothing close to being enough to run a family of 3. To be honest, all we had was 1 lakh. I didn’t want to borrow money from my parents, but the fear of building a future for my kids, and the pressure of having to run my family dawned on me. I knew I had to get a job but was clueless about what I had to do.
That’s when I called up a friend and asked her if she could help me find a job. She told me about this thing called digital marketing, and how I’ll be able to work from home and make money. The idea of being able to take care of my kids, while I worked seemed attractive, but I wasn’t sold on the concept yet. I was unsure if I’d be able to make enough money to run my family. I didn’t know if I could depend on a market that is so volatile. So many questions popped into my head. After thinking so much, I decided to give it a shot. What’s the worst that could happen? I thought. I signed up for a course on affiliate marketing, and it was the best decision of my life.
I was done with the course in a month’s time, and I was now a certified affiliate marketer. I partnered with a number of eCommerce websites including Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal, and I shared the links with all my friends. Now, every time they bought something using the link, I got a commission. Soon, I started making some money from it. I wanted to take things to the next level. So, I reached out to a few bloggers and signed up a contract with them to place my links on their blogs.
Today, I’ve saved enough money to send my kids to college. If it wasn’t for that one courageous move to give a shot at uncertainty, I wouldn’t be where I am today. If you are in a place where you have the responsibility of being the breadwinner of your family, and at the same time, you are not sure about how you’re going to do it, you can look into digital marketing and see if it interests you like it interested me.Share this post
